Supervision

Counselling Supervision

For Counsellors working with Children and/ or Adults

What do you cover?

I have worked as an Integrative Psychotherapist/ Counsellor and Play Therapist for over 11 years, and qualified as a Supervisor since 2013.

I can support both student counsellors in their placement work (adults and primary/ secondary children) and may be of additional benefit to students as I have taught CPCAB counselling courses Level 2-4, so I will appreciate how much you are having to manage.

I can also support qualified counsellors – maybe you are just moving into private practice and need help with this? Perhaps you are originally trained as a talking therapist but you are now wanting to additional mentoring working with primary school aged children?

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and registered member of Play Therapy United Kingdom (PTUK).

Supervision can be online and face to face.

Why supervision with you?

My background is quite unique as I am both a qualified adult therapist and a play therapist. I appreciate that many talking therapists are typically trained to work with adults initially and later go on to do additional training with children. This is usually ‘play informed’ or some other form of creative therapy. My skillset could be beneficial to you by furthering your understanding of working with children, as well as supporting your adult practice if you have one.

I work as an integrative therapist, but appreciate the pluralistic approach also. I pull from the following approaches:

  • Psychodynamic theory
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Person-centred theory
  • Mindfulness
  • Existentialism
  • Play Therapy – Axline, Landreth, and many other child developmental theorists
  • Child-Parent Relationship Therapy
  • Creative therapy toolkit includes sandtray, clay, arts and crafts, movement, puppets, dolls house, role play, construction toys, etc.

What is your approach to supervision?

I believe it is incredibly important that supervision parallels many of the elements that are within the counselling process. I am not here to judge you or ‘tell you off’, I am here to support you. I am also not going to pretend to be an expert and I will be open with you if there are times that I do not know the answer – but I will make sure to go find one for you. Supervision with me includes:

  • Feeling supported
  • Being mentored when it is needed or wanted
  • A collaborative process – I can learn just as much from you as you can from me
  • Support with safeguarding issues
  • Taking an interest in your wellbeing
  • Offering support not just around your client work, but other things that may be related to your practice like navigating agency policies, accreditation, etc.
  • A space to vent and to talk about all the uncomfortable ‘messy’ stuff
